You know, I see this beautiful page with its gorgeous art and stunning concept, and what is the first thing that pops into my head? “Goodness, those tears will leave stains!” *facepalm*
Hm… I was afraid people will get that impression and I’m not sure I like that, because they are not meant to be elves.. =/ (VERY MINOR SETTING SPOILERS AHEAD I GUESS) They are supposed to be human, they were just changed by moving to and living on another world for several hundred years. Grow taller because of lesser gravity, suffer from some sort of argyria and stuff like that. (MINOR SPOILER END) So should we change their shade of skin to something different or anything like that? Other colors I tried look kinda comical to me to be honest 😀 And we do need them to look different from any human race.
Well, it would depend on the situations they’re living in. For example, why would their surroundings make them grey and not some other colour? Don’t think about comical when you’re making a new species, because you should make what works and not what looks good. 😉 Their eyes so far are what are most Dunmer-y to me, though. Slanted and thin with one colour for the sclera and iris is exactly the same as the Dunmer in Skyrim.
If you want to make it a little unique, you can change the of their eyes a bit. Maybe make them longer horizontally, or wider vertically? Don’t be afraid to make subtle but weird edits – they’ll only look strange until you and your audience get used to it. Everyone loves new and weird things! 😛 Maybe you can give them pupils too, unless they’re meant to be a blind people. Even in Skyrim the elves have pupils. Tiny ones. XD But anyway, I’m pretty sure anyone who’s played that game series would compare them to Dunmer and think them elves.
I’m not sure if you’ve read past spoiler alert, but basically we are not creating a new species. As for the color, an abundance of silver in water and food, would supposedly turn them grey. What would turn them some other color, I do not know. Maybe if all they ate were carrots 😀 Again, we wouldn’t like to delve too much into things like that, because this is still a fantasy and then we would have to explain things like how magic works. And no one ever questions that ;).
Might be that the fact that they are grey then projects everything else to you though. I see what you mean, but slanted eyes are a real world characteristic especially with Asians. Narrowed here by the fact that she is squinting and crying.
Dunmers have a lot of Skyrim specific features that make them look “evil”. As drows generally always were, and dunmers are just that – renamed drows. Slanted eyes being one of the characteristics. Not every dunmer has them though. I hope Eleanor doesn’t look evil… And wouldn’t giving them irises and pupils, make them look even more like them then? 😀 http://oyster.ignimgs.com/franchises/images/04/41/44160_Dunmer_normal.jpg
Why do people feel the need to compare every time something new comes up? I -like- the design of these people, I don’t care if they remind anyone of any other people. Sorry if this is somewhat forceful, but really, do you know how hard it is to create something that is really unique? So what if they look like Dunmer? That’s like going to New Zealand and then saying it reminds you of Switzerland, because of the snow-capped mountains. Does it make it less beautiful? Less unique in its own right? This is a new story, it’s got its own world. Allow it to unfold.
OK that -was- forceful and I’m biting back an equally forceful agreement (because anger is one of my issues). You’re right Lleyn. I just wanted to say something in reply, since they specifically asked for my advice. I suppose that was a bad move on Magpie’s part, and a bad move for answering on my part. 😛
Anyway, Mag, the silver thing actually makes a lot of sense. If the degree of silver in what they ate/drank was high enough, over time and through the generations they would indeed turn grey. Maybe even blue. I’m sure some here might have read Mitch Albom’s “Five People You Meet In Heaven” with the poor Blue Guy… Otherwise, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argyria is also a useful source.
The pupils was only so it was more logical that they could see. Unless they have magic and don’t need pupils to let the light in? Ah, but it doesn’t matter.
I can tell I’ve definitely offended some people here. Already. Which is sad. So, I’ll just say, when I originally said “She looks like a Dunmer”, I wasn’t trying to be some kind of judgemental prick. I’m actually really interested to see what happens. I’ll just uhh remove myself from the comments sections… 😛
We always appreciate feedback. Especially when we ask for it. And I don’t think you offended anybody. So don’t be afraid to share your opinion in the future.
Lleyn I appreciate person who can look at something and not immediately compare it to something else. We should always try to enjoy something for what it is in its own right.
It’s too late to change them now, so it’s good.
They DO look different, and your explanation makes as much sense as the story will explain.
Should they be taking some sort of medication for this condition, that might otherwise make them slightly unfit for this planet they live on now?
i kinda like how their grey. it makes everything around them seem brighter.with everything else being brighter and more colorful. you focus more on them. still don’t get the story yet. but it looks like its still in the background stage and setting up the plot stuff. really pretty so far tho.
I ran across a link to this comic a few days ago and decided to click randomly. I finally finished, and am still absolutely stunned by the art. Each single panel could be in an art show, and now I’m sitting on the edge of my seat for a new update. I’m still a little confused by the story, but that happens a LOT when I begin a new series, or when I read through an entire comic as fast as I can (because how am I supposed to stop when everything’s so gorgeous).
Why thank you, it means a lot =) The back story should unveil in time, so it should become clear what’s what. We’re still in the “intro” stages at the moment, so it’s not really anything in terms of story to follow 😉 I guess we didn’t realize it would be such a long process. Prologue is not a bad idea for these things also =P

+1^ If there was a thumbs up button, it would be for you cuz that’s hilarious xD
Sadly, that was my first thought as well. Good to know I’m not alone!
She looks like a Dunmer. o.O

Comments are cool. All of them. (Excluding spam.) It means people care =)
